Gender equality?

Gender equality? Lately we are facing a big shift in the way women are dealt with in the media. On one side, newspapers are writing sistematically about domestic violence, on the other, opinion leaders keep explicitely feminist positions.  Italian medias  are positively reacting to the end of Berlusconi’s era, but in the same time the political debate exploited women body to limit the access to surrogacy to a politically weak gay minority. 

In commercials and brand communication the androgynous body, together with a communication free from heteronormative gender stereotipes,  is gaining room, releasing a variety of genders, bodies and sexualities. However,  no  inversion of the deepest sociopolitical structures: in February only, Repubblica newspaper reported 9 new women dead from domestic violence in Italy only, while Forbes reported its list of the planet richest people, with only 190 women out of 1.810 billionaires.
